Does installing from binary make any difference in comparison to installing from source ?
Are any third-party libraries, such as Intel MKL or the C++ Boost library are used by Psi4 while installing from binary ?

Binary comes with ICC compiled versions and MKL for BLAS. If you are not developing Psi4 the binary version is recommended. It is unlikely compiling yourself will lead to performance improvements.
